As predicted
after round 9, Giri made a relatively short draw against Karjakin with White.
This opened the door for Mamedyarov and Carlsen.
Svidler
helped by playing Qb3 on move 15. Mamedyarov pounced and reply with Na5 and
follow up with Nc4 on move 16! Just 5 moves later it was all over and Mamedyarov
had pulled equal with Giri on 7/10.
Then Carlsen
pulled an absolute “Magnus” on Wesley So, creating something out of absolutely
nothing at all to take the win and a share of first place.
Meanwhile
Kramnik was trying to create a masterpiece by sacrificing a full Queen with
White against Matlakov. After missing 2 clear wins that I saw, Kramnik finally
took the full point.
Tomorrow is
a rest day. However, the key games in round 11 on Friday will be Mamedyarov vs
Carlsen and Caruana vs Giri. Both games have the possibility of reshaping the
top of the leader board.
